What Physio Involves
Each session is tailored to your animal specific requirements. This may be for maintenance, which enhances your animals performance and prevents injury. It could also be to help treat a condition such as osteoarthritis or an injury.

1
Detailed Assessment
Each session starts off with a static and dynamic assessment. This includes a detailed chat with the owner on what issues they are experiencing and what they wish to improve on. The physio will assess the way your animal moves and their posture in order to make notes on areas that look to need improvement. Animals that are on crate or box rest will not need to undergo a dynamic assessment
2
Treatment using manual therapies
It is scientifically proven that massage is the most effective method of promoting muscle relaxation, improving circulation and reducing pain and chronic inflammation. Massage is used predominantly within our sessions as well as stretching and myofascial release. Areas of muscle tension or compensatory pain from an injury are targeted with these manual therapies to reduce sore muscles, increase range of motion and promote overall comfort.
3
Treatment using electrotherapies
Horsfall Veterinary Physiotherapy equips a range of electrotherapy devices to support treatments. They can go along side massage to support the benefits or can be used in place of it where it is not appropriate.
The electrotherapies that can be used within sessions incluce:
- Photo biomodulation (commonly known as infrared laser)
- Shortwave Ultrasound
- Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
- Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field therapy (PEMF)
- Heat therapy
4
Take home advice/Exercise prescription
After the session, target areas are outlined and you will be given a few exercises or at home recommendations.
The benefits of certain exercises include strengthening, increasing range of motion and promoting good quality movement.
